How to Recover a website after migrating it to a new Hosting Provider

January 31, 2018 RMRS1

What should you do when you see a blank screen (maybe with a 500 status code) after you migrate the website to a new Hosting service provider?

There are two methods you can try.

METHOD 1 – Disable All Plugins

  1. Go to Cloudways (new hosting provider) and open the corresponding database from the website you have migrated.
  2. Once inside the database, open the “options” table.
  3. Go to the “select data” tab and scroll down to “Activate plugin” and click edit.
  4. Delete everything from the “option_value” box and save your changes by clicking on the button (this will deactivate/disable all plugins).
  5. Log into the back-end of the website and activate all plugins one by one.

You should now be able to see the front and back end of the website.

However if this method does not help, you can try method 2.

METHOD 2 – Revert the Original Theme

  1. Go to your FTP service provider (example: FileZilla) and connect to the server
  2. Open the Website’s folder, go to the “Public_html” folder, click the “WP_content” folder and go inside the “themes” folder
  3. Once inside the themes folder, you will see various folders. The ones that are named “TwentyFifteen”, “TweentySixteen” and “TweentySeventeen” are the default WordPress themes, so those you won’t modify. For the rest of the folders, rename them however you want but bear in mind we will be changing them to their original names on the next step so you can just add some letters at the end of each one.
  4. Once you’ve renamed them, the FTP software will update those changes automatically. Now you just need to renamed those folders you have just changed to their original ones.
  5. Now go to the backend of the website and on the left menu click on “Clickfunnels”, go to seetings and open the page. Click on the green button that says “Save settings”.
  6. At the top of the dashboard you’ll see the cache plugin called “Breeze”, click on its drop down menu and select “Purge all cache”.
  7. Go to cloudways, select the server you are using and click “Manage settings”, on the “Varnish row” click on “purge” (to purge all cache too).

This should be it (hopefully).
