SOP To Promote YouTube Video

November 7, 2018 Yuri

In case we need to promote a video:
Updated – Nov 14, 2018
Note: there are 2 videos below.
First is MANUAL option and delivers twice as much views per same amount spent. So this IS preferable and the one we want to use for future promotions:

====================================================

This is standard AUTOMATIC option recommended by YouTube and ‘gurus’ – sucks more money and saved here as a ‘piece of art’ – don’t use it.

YouTube End Screen / Cards SOP ( endscreens )

July 12, 2018 RMRS1

In this video I will show you how we utilise cards and end screens here at RMRS:

Key video points:

  • 01:00 changing a video element on an end screen
  • 03:04 how to edit a playlist
  • 03:12 how to know if  a playlist is optimized
  • 04:49 how to link to a video in “playlist mode”
  • 06:47 how to find out which playlists a particular video sits in
  • 08:05 YouTube cards section starts
  • 09:29 how to chose what to put in a card

Important things to remember:

  • If there is one video element to select on an end screen select a hyper relevant video or playlist. If a single video it must be in playlist mode.
  • If two video elements to chose from try and chose two hyper relevant videos/playlists but if not for the second chose “best for viewer”
  • We no longer select the “latest upload” for end screens
  • When looking for a playlist on the Playlist page on the RMRS channel remember to scroll to the bottom until all playlists are loaded/revealed on the page
  • Keyword tutorial mentioned – https://rmrs1.com/youtube-keywords-and-keyword-research/
  • Playlist tutorial mentions – https://rmrs1.com/optimizing-youtube-playlists/
  • There is no set number of cards we want to place in a video
  • In a sponsored video No card should appear before the sponsor pitch is finished
  • Cards should either be playlists or a video in playlist mode
  • Use teaser/custom text instead of playlist name if more likely to get a click

Optimizing YouTube Playlists

July 12, 2018 RMRS1

This video will show you how to optimize existing playlists (but is also relevant for creating new playlists)

Key points:

  • 01:11 – Keyword targeting
  • 01:59 – playlist descriptions
  • 03:53 – playlist ordering
  • 04:30 – adding new videos
  • 06:28 – playlist settings (including series playlists)

Important things to remember:

  • If you are a video editor and want to point to an existing playlist that is not optimized – or think we need a new playlist please contact a member of the youtube/content team who will do this on your behalf
  • In playlist setting make sure we are ordering manually so that when we add video to playlists they don’t all look the same on the playlist page and also so we can ensure the playlist is optimized to have the best 4 videos at the start
  • Keyword tutorial mentioned is here – https://rmrs1.com/youtube-keywords-and-keyword-research/ – keyword tool mention is at www.vidiq.com
  • Series playlists rules:

– Should be used for our “tent poll” playlist – think broad catergories such as grooming, hair, shoes, suits

– Can only include videos from our channel

– Videos can only appear in ONE series playlist so you will need to remove it from an existing one if you want to add it to a new one… Read the rest

YouTube Community Translations

July 12, 2018 RMRS1

This video will show you how to review and process community translation contributions:

Important things to remember:

  • As a manager of the channel you should get translation review notifications AT LEAST once a month but if not I would check it at least once every two weeks manually via the Creator Studio
  • Here is the link to create a call to action for people to get involved in translations – http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UCmRfQHc3U4fV1-i8Ry1HmtA&tab=2
  • The google translation in the box on the right will never be perfect so we are just checking to see if there is anything that is very different from the original before we send it back for more work
  • Here is the YouTube help page on contributions if you want to understand the process in more detail – https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538?hl=en

Finding CTR Click Through Rate Data In YouTube Analytics

July 12, 2018 RMRS1

This video will walk you  through the steps of finding Click through rate data for RMRS youtube videos. Please note that this feature is currently in Beta so is subject to change. Here you’ll find out how to get click through rate data for the last 28 days.

And in this video you will find out how to get CTR data for the lifetime of the video. **please note however that CTR data is only available from Jan 1 2018.

Important things to remember:

  • Retrospective optimisation doc – https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_VvGyQSQvS9zAvwxOeWcEogIMV-xp4wb6jTYXtO2Ll0/edit#gid=0 – please contact Antonio or Steven for access
  • Currently this is a Beta feature so is manual and limited. There is no mass export function available yet for the entire catalogue of videos
  • The CTR data will always revert back to the overall channel number so remember you need to change the video in the search bar
  • When you select an individual video it will by default take you to an “overview” page – you need to click on “reach viewers” in order to get the CTR data
  • The page will always default to last 28 days even if previously you had changed this for a different video
  • Revert back to classic view of YouTube analytics once you have finished your session
  • CTR data is not as straightforward as it may seem – please see more information here – https://creatoracademy.youtube.com/page/lesson/analytics-impressions#strategies-zippy-link-3
